 Info:

  • Both sides struggled with the bat in the first innings of the first Test before finding the going a lot easier the second time around. For West Indies, Nkrumah Bonner scored his maiden Test century and at the same time became only the third player in Test history to make a score of 75+ in each of his first three games. Kyle Mayers also continued his impressive start to Test cricket with scores of 45 and 52.
  • For Sri Lanka, it was debutant Pathum Nissanka who became the 108th Test batsman to score a ton on debut. He is the fourth Sri Lankan to do this and the first to do so in an overseas Test. Opener Lahiru Thirimanne also impressed with scores of 70 and 76.
  • After the first two days, bowling became a real struggle at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Jason Holder and Suranga Lakmal both took five wicket hauls in the first innings but nothing in the second. Kemar Roach provided consistency and took three wickets in both Sri Lanka innings.

 Toss Prediction
As has become customary at this venue, we expect whichever captain who wins the toss will elect to field.

 Weather & Pitch Report
⛅ Weather:
It will be hot, although partly cloudy, across the five days of this game. Highs of 28 with the odd shower around.

🏟️ Pitch:
As with the first Test, the pitch will do the most for the bowlers on days one and two. In the interests of seeing a result, it would be great to see the pitch offer some quicker spin as the game progresses.

 Team NEWS:

 WI Team News:
West Indies have a 13 man squad to choose from and should keep faith with the same team from the first Test. Vice-captain Jermaine Blackwood disappointed with the bat making only 6 runs and Shannon Gabriel went wicketless but we expect to see the same XI selected.

 SL Team News:
After being bowled out for 169 inside the first day of the first Test, Sri Lanka showed an enormous amount of character and fight to turn the game around and put themselves in the driving seat over the final days. This Test gives them the opportunity to arrest a poor run in this format which has seen them win only one series in the last six.

ℹ️ Grand League Team will be Added in Final Team Section

 WI Key Players:

 Kyle Mayers:
the man bats with a real West Indian swagger seen in other left-handers like Viv Richards and Brian Lara. In West Indies’ first innings he was the only one of the batsmen to find any fluency in troubling batting conditions. He’ll be looking to turn his two starts in the first Test into a maiden three figure score at home.

 Jason Holder:
the all-rounder enjoyed his first Test as a mere player after being relieved of the captaincy only weeks before. He now has eight 5-wicket hauls in his career in this format and, although he didn’t pick up a wicket in the Sri Lanka second innings, he was very economical and was treated with the utmost respect by the batsmen.

 Rahkeem Cornwall:
West Indies’ premier spinner also showed his worth with the bat in last week’s Test, top scoring with 61 in the first innings. He took 4 wickets across the match and will no doubt be asked to bowl many overs if the conditions aren’t conducive for the pace bowlers.

 SL Key Players:

 Dimuth Karunaratne:
the captain struggled to impose himself with the bat during the first Test, registering scores of only 12 and 3. Sri Lanka will need him to find his form quickly so they can build a foundation at the top of the order for the rest of the innings.

 Lahiru Thirimanne:
averaging 45.62 in this format this year, Thirimanne is the batsman in form for Sri Lanka. However, he wasn’t able to turn either of his 70+ scores into centuries. He only has two Test tons in 39 matches, a stat which must improve if his country are to become a force in Test cricket again.

 Suranga Lakmal:
the experienced pace bowler showed his worth to the side in West Indies’ first innings, taking 5-47 including the wickets of Brathwaite, Mayers, Blackwood and Holder. He only went at 1.32 an over in the fourth innings of the game and sent down 10 maidens.

 Team Forms:

 WI Team Form:
The draw in the first Test ended West Indies recent home run of three successive big defeats. They will take confidence from batting out the final day when previous sides would have crumbled. Overall, they are in a positive place after the victories in the other formats against Sri Lanka.

 SL Team Form:
Sri Lanka ended the first Test with mixed emotions after beginning poorly, bouncing back strongly with the bat, but ultimately failing to complete the victory. This match gives them the chance to not only return home from the Caribbean with something to show for their efforts but also to end a run of only one Test victory in their last ten games.

 SQUAD:
 WEST INDIES:
Kraigg Brathwaite(c), John Campbell, Nkrumah Bonner, Kyle Mayers, Jermaine Blackwood, Jason Holder, Joshua Da Silva(w), Alzarri Joseph, Rahkeem Cornwall, Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel, Darren Bravo, Jomel Warrican.
