 Info:

  • Sunrisers joined the IPL in 2013 and won the title in 2016 when they beat RCB by 8 runs in the final in Bangalore. For KKR, they have had two successful campaigns, defeating CSK in the 2012 final and Kings XI Punjab two years later.
  • There will be plenty of top international players on show in this game with both sides jam packed with star names. Sunrisers Hyderabad have Kane Williamson, David Warner, Jason Roy, Mohammad Nabi, Jason Holder, Jonny Bairstow, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman to choose from. In the KKR squad, there is Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan, Ben Cutting, Tim Seifert, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins and Lockie Ferguson.
  • The big name international players will be lining up alongside some equally if not bigger name players from India. Sunrisers, coached by Trevor Bayliss from 2020 onwards, have Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Thangarasu Natarajan and Wirddhiman Saha in their squad. KKR, coached by Brendon McCullum since last year’s IPL, have the likes of Shubman Gill, Karun Nair, Dinesh Karthik, Kuldeep Yadav and Harbhajan Singh still going strong at 40 years of age.

 Weather & Pitch Report
⛅ Weather:
Temperatures will be on their way down from 32 degrees by the time the game begins. Don’t expect it to drop below 29 during the match.

🏟️ Pitch:
Historically the pitch in Chennai is more favourable towards the spin bowlers than the pace bowlers. We expect a surface conducive to slow bowling again.

 Team NEWS:

 SRH Team News:
Sunrisers will be looking to carry through their strong form from the end of last season and have kept together the majority of the squad in IPL 2021 who got them within touching distance of the final. There are no weak teams in the IPL but Sunrisers Hyderabad are certainly one of the stronger ones.

 KKR Team News:
KKR came up short in every department last season, finishing fifth and having no players in the top wickets or run lists. Shakib Al Hasan is an excellent addition and provides quality in every discipline. If Pat Cummins can deliver a glut of wickets then they will be a team to keep an eye on..

 SRH Key Players:

 David Warner:
Many successful cricket teams have been built on the foundation of an abrasive Australian leader at the top of the order and Sunrisers have just the man in David Warner. He had a relatively quiet IPL last year, hitting only four half-centuries, a strong season for David Warner will equal a strong IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

 Rashid Khan:
The Afghan spinner has just lost his place at the top of the ICC T20I bowling rankings to South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi. Khan will be keen to show he is still the best in the business and build on his 75 wickets in four seasons with the Sunrisers.

 Bhubneshwar Kumar:
IPL success is all about finding the right mix of international superstars alongside homegrown experts and Kumar certainly fits the latter. He only managed four appearances in last year’s IPL before injury struck so he will be like a new signing for this campaign.

 KKR Key Players:

 Shakib al Hasan:
The Bangladesh all-rounder has joined Kolkata Knight Riders after two seasons playing under David Warner’s leadership at Sunrisers. He is one of the best players in the world, knows the conditions and will have a point to prove.

 Eoin Morgan:
Leaders don’t come much calmer and cooler under pressure than England’s white ball captain. He has seen it all in this format and hit 418 runs in the 2020 IPL. You may be surprised to hear that he only scored one half century but all his runs come at the death meaning that each boundary is particularly crucial.

 Pat Cummins:
Australia’s premier bowler has contributed 27 wickets across the last two IPL seasons and will be looking to improve on his return of 12 scalps in 2020. No mug with the bat, he also hit a half-century and will be expected to chip in with valuable runs again at the bottom of the order.

 Team Forms:

 SRH Team Form:
Sunrisers excellent finish to the season saw them finish in third. Add in a full campaign from Bhuvneshwar Kumar with Jason Roy waiting in the wings and you have a team at the top of their game.

 KKR Team Form:
Any team under the leadership of Brendan McCullum and Eoin Morgan is not going to be satisfied with consecutive fifth placed finishes. However, the form table doesn’t lie and KKR need to snap out of mediocrity if they are to become a force.

 SQUAD:
 Sunriser Hyderabad:
David Warner (Captain), Kane Williamson, Jonny Bairstow (WK), Manish Pandey, Sreevats Goswami (WK), Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Kedar Jadhav, Priyam Garg, Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma, Abdul Samad, Virat Singh, Mitchell Marsh, Jason Holder, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T. Natarajan, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul, Basil Thampi, Jagadeesha Suchith, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman.

 Kolkata Knight Riders:
Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Karun Nair, Eoin Morgan (F), Nitish Rana, Gurkeerat Mann Singh, Tim Seifert (F), Dinesh Karthik, Sheldon Jackson, Andre Russell (F), Shakib Al Hasan (F), Ben Cutting (F), Venkatesh Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine (F), Harbhajan Singh, Pawan Negi, Vaibhav Arora, Pat Cummins (F), Lockie Ferguson (F), Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep Warrier, Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti.
